Nine O'clock High

from Immorality by Dr. Lindyke

about

This is just plain ol' rock-n-roll. It's sort of enthusiastic, as if there were nothing at all sarcastic about an addict jonesing for a fix saying that he's a "lucky guy." Normally I'm terrible at relating to drug songs, but this one was different. Don't know why.

lyrics

LYRICS
-----------

Chains!
Chains around my body
I can't move again today
Been this way for seven weeks
But the doc says I'll be OK

Blame!
Blame for my condition
Lies in another's hands
For the dead don't speak and I'm way too weak
To answer their demands

But when the morning comes I'm screaming pain
Yeah I'm real bad hurt, I lost my shirt
Layed-up lucky guy!
First they'll check the pulse, then the stethoscope
Yeah and then when they assign my dope
I'm off the scope
And by 9 o'clock I'm high!

Doctors, nurses and a priest or two
Make passes by my door
They speak in garbled languages
But I'm understanding more

Games are played in many ways
But I think they're catching on
And I fear a discharge coming soon
Then this paradise is gone!

But when the morning comes I'm screaming pain
Yeah I'm real bad hurt, I lost my shirt
Layed-up lucky, lucky, lucky, lucky guy!
First they'll check the pulse, then the stethoscope
Yeah and then when they assign my dope
I'm off the scope
And by 9 o'clock I'm high!

about

Dr. Lindyke Union

"Dr. Lindyke" is the nom de plume of William Hoover and Dave Leigh. William writes lyrics; Dave writes music. Though we write a lot, neither of us are really performers, and we LOVE it when people cover our songs. Please do.
